Game rangers confiscate 13 elephant tusks from the back of a timber truck in Yokadouma, East Province of Cameroon. Some arrests were made by officials. -
Cameroon Authorities Eradicate Poaching
Cameroon authorities move to eradicate poaching. Minister of Forestry and Wildlife, Elvis Ngolle said: “Over the last few months we have noticed that poaching has taken a worrying trend and assumed alarming proportions in our country.” A program was set in place to help prevent poaching. -
Three Year Action Plan Put In Place
A three-year action plan for COVAREF was put in place. A structure to establish education to local people about poaching and aim to involve the local people in the protection of wildlife was made. Structures to manage hunting in community hunting zones were also enforced. -
15 Poachers Arrested After Caught With 1,000kg Of Bush Meat
15 wildlife poachers were arrested after being caught with 1,000kg of bush meat. Cameroon ministry of forestry and wildlife joined forces with the national military to uncover several protected species of gorillas, elephants and chimpanzees, along with over 30 guns; high caliber rifles and illegally owned AK47. They had seen 54 arrests of poachers in the area since 2008. -
Two Rangers Found Dead
Two park rangers were found dead in Babandjida, North Cameroon with 15 elephant carcasses. -
Poachers Kill Park Ranger In Waza, National Park
Poachers entered the Waza National Park, north Cameroon, and killed a park ranger. The ranger was apparently ambushed by poachers and left for dead. The ranger whose name remains unknown died on the way to hospital. A suitcase with the carcass of an animal shell, registration plate for a neighboring country and a bike was left behind. -
20 Ivory Tusks Confiscated In Ntam
20 Ivory tusks were impounded by officials in Ntam, east province of Cameroon after being found in the back of a truck used to transport 300 bags of cocoa. -
Forest Ranger Killed And Another Badly Injured After Being Shot By Poachers
A forest ranger was killed and another seriously injured after gorilla poachers open fired when they were on patrol. Situated in the Lobéké National Park, East Cameroon, park ranger Pierre Archille Zomedel, 37, was shot several times in the chest. His collegue Jean Fils Mamendju was shot in the arm and the shoulder and was rushed to hospital where he received intensive medical attention.
