The event that started it all.
Two white males and two females were walking on a train and one stepped on Haywood Patterson's hand. A stone-throwing fight between the group of boys and Patterson's group and won the fight. All but one was forced off the train and those who were off told the stationmaster in Stevenson that the black group attacked him and his comrades. The group of African American boys were then arrested on the train, and eventually would become the Scottsboro Boys.
