Philip was born in the Spanish capital of Valladolid on May 21,1527 at Palacio de Pimentel.

His mother Isabella of Portugal, died I 1539 when Philip was only 12.

In Philip's childhood his father- the holy roman emperor ,Charles B- from time to time would write Philip secret messages, describing to him his duties in which god had given him and warning him to not trust anybody to much.

Philip II married his cousin, Maria of Portugal in 1543. she later dies in 1545 after giving birth to Don Carlos.

In Philips early 20's, he traveled to Italy, Germany and the Netherlands. But Because of his great reserve and him not being able to speak fluently in any language, other than castellan, he became unpopular with the German and Flemish nobility.

After Maria's death Philip got married to Mary I of England. This made Philip become sovereign of England until Mary died in 1558.

Philips third marriage was the most complicated of his marriages. in his 3rd marriage he got married to Elizabeth of Valois, who was the daughter of Henry II of France. This marriage was the result of the Peace of Cateau-Cambrésis in 1559. This peace, for a generation, ended the open wars between Spain and France. Out of this marriage Philip also got 2 daughters- Isabella Clara Eugenia and Catherine Micaela. Unfortunately Elizabeth died in 1568.

Philips first son became mentally unstable which cause Philip to imprison him in the beginning of 1568. Don died after half a year in solitary confinement at the age of 23.

Philips 4th marriage was his last one. He married Anna of Austria, who was the daughter of his first cousin the emperor Maximilian II. She died in 1580 but her only surviving son became Philip III.

Philip the second was diagnosed with cancer in the early part of 1598. he later died due to it on September 13, 1598. This caused Phillip the third, who was now 20, to take over.
