    Donna Haraway Early Life
    Donna J. Haraway is a well-known Professor in the History of Consciousness and Feminist Studies Department at the University of California, in Santa Cruz, CA. Haraway was born on September 6, 1944 in Denver Colorado. Early, Haraway attended school in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado. She then attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, where she triple majored in zoology, philosophy and literature. Haraway also studied in Paris and then completed her Ph.D. in biology at Yale in 1970.

    Donna Haraway, Cyborg Manifesto
    In 1985, Haraway published 'A Cyborg Manifesto: in Socialist Review'. This essay is one of Haraway’s most famous pieces and has even been incorporated into many undergraduate curriculums. In this essay she uses the word cyborg as a metaphor as she explores the relationship among humans, nature and machines. Haraway claimed the realities of modern life include a relationship between people and technology so intimate that it’s no longer possible to tell where we end and machines begin.

    1990 Haraway published, Primate Visions: Gender, Race, and Nature in the World of Modern Science, Haraway focused on the metaphors and narratives that direct the science of primatology. Haraway was assertive in that female primatologists focus on different observations that require more communication and basic survival activities, offering a different perspective of the origins of nature.     In September 2000, Donna J. Haraway was awarded the J.D Bernal Award for her lifetime contributions to the field of Social Science, which is the highest honor given by the Society for Social Studies Science. She has given multiple lectures and written numerous articles over the years regarding feminism, cyborg manifesto, human relationships and nature. She continues to contribute to the world of biology, philosophy and social sciences today.
