1998 Peter Thiel co-founded PayPal with Max Levchin. PayPal went public on February 15th 2002.

PayPal was sold to eBay for 1.5 Billion later on in the year. At the time, he held a $55 Million share in the company.

In late 2004, Thiel made a $500,000 investment In the new social network Facebook. He subsequently took control of 10.2% of the company and joined Facebook's board. He was the first outside investor in Facebook. He would go on to be portrayed in The Social Network.

In recent years, Peter Thiel has donated millions to multiple varieties of organizations. Including organizations related to funding research in Anti-Aging. Other donations included pledging to the Seasteading Institute, Breakout Labs, and The Committee to Protect Journalists.
