In the 1930's, Pepsi introduced 12-ounce bottles for a nickle which was the same price as Coca-cola but the Coca-cola company only produced 6-ounce bottles and consumers saw the better deal with Pepsi-cola and the company's profits doubled. Later in the 1940's they adopted a new logo (shown below) until the 50's.

Pepsi-cola started to market towards African-Americans which at the time wasn't a market that was highly marketed towards. The marketing worked and Pepsi was three times more likely to be purchased than coke by African-American customers.

Pepsi started to sponsor different kinds of events to get more promotion for their product. They sponsored with the NFL, NBA, Major league Soccer, Major league Baseball and even NASCAR.
