The Pepsi-cola company went bankrupt due to purchases of high priced sugar and the company was given a way to new owners. -
The Great Depression
In the 1930's, Pepsi introduced 12-ounce bottles for a nickle which was the same price as Coca-cola but the Coca-cola company only produced 6-ounce bottles and consumers saw the better deal with Pepsi-cola and the company's profits doubled. Later in the 1940's they adopted a new logo (shown below) until the 50's. -
Progressive Marketing
Pepsi-cola started to market towards African-Americans which at the time wasn't a market that was highly marketed towards. The marketing worked and Pepsi was three times more likely to be purchased than coke by African-American customers. -

Pepsi started to sponsor different kinds of events to get more promotion for their product. They sponsored with the NFL, NBA, Major league Soccer, Major league Baseball and even NASCAR.
