  • Feather and Quill Pens

    Feather and Quill Pens
People began to make pens from the feathers of birds such as geese and swans. The shaft of these pens were hardened, and the tip was shaped into a slit to make writing with the pen easier. These were known as quill pens, and they were used a lot, until the 1800’s when the steel nibs pen became increasingly popular.
  • Steel Nibs Pens

The first steel nibs on dip pens were produced by an English chemist in 1780. His invention grew to become popular in 1818 when they were produced in quantity. The steel nibs pen became a huge competitior to the quill pen.

John H. Loud, an American inventor, developed a ballpoint pen in 1888. Ballpoint pens got little notice until World War II. Many pilots began using these pens because the ink did not leak at high altituides After the war, ballpoint pens became very popular.

    Livescribe's Smartpens
Livescribe understands that humans are becoming more in touch with digital items instead of pens. They made smartpens that can record, download apps, connect to Google Docs, and much more with the help of dotpaper. They first made the pulse smartpen, then the echo smartpen, and most recently, the sky smartpen.
  • My Future Prediction

I think that future pens will be like Siri on the Iphone. You can tell them what you want: maybe you want to write down a number or have them write down a conversation that you and your friend were having. The pen could do this in 2050!
