    In the first article it talks about how the steroid problem is still big. The NFL has a strict policy on their use of steroids but players still get through. The use of annabolic steroids is still big for players.

    The NFL strenghtened its drug testing policies. It banned the use of EPO which gives you more stamina and also switched the way that they test.They now use carbon isotopes to determine if testosterone in pee is natural or unnatural. Because of the price, before they would only use the test on a peroson who already tested positive before just for confirmation. But now its the only test being used. There is no policy for HGH because its detected through blood samples.

In the 80s it was at its height when about 20% of the players were using them. That dropped to about 12% in the 90s. It is lower today de to stricter policy. The players who had used them are more likely to have joint and cartilage problems.

    The use of steroids has become signifigantly less. Although some still use them the number has decreased. Part of it is because of the new testing policy.

    The NFL has a strict policy for PEDs. They test for many different types of PEDs such as annabolic steroids and adderall. However, players are starting to use different substances not currently being tested for. The use of HGH is on the rise because there is no testing policy in place for it. The same goes for deer antler spray which can only be detected through blood testing. As long as there is no policy in place for the substances players are going to continue using them.

    Deer antler spray also known as IFG-1 is a growth hormone that is normally used by doctors to help people with stunted growth. Players are using this to help their injuries heal faster. Deer Antler spray has shown to help heal cartilage and tendon injuries. It is currently banned by the NFL. It came on the scene when superbowl linebacker Ray Lewis suffered a tricep injury. His career was thought to be over until he quickly recovered. He denies ever using the product however.

    New NFL drug testing policy
    The NFLPA has voted to accept the new drug testing policy. Along with changes made in the way they handle other drug related issues, the vite has been passed to start testing for the use of Human Growth Hormones. They will being testing in the 2014 season. If a player is caught using human growth hormones they are allowed to challenge the ruling. The NFL will not be allowed to collect blood of the players on game day.
