  • Deductive-nomological model

Oppenheim along with Hempel and Grelling published a paper describing a new scientific way of answering questions that asked "Why?". They reasoned that because humans are not good at causal relationships, they should be left out of the answer. Therefore they answered the questions based on what is known at the beginning and known at the end. Then based on prediction or observation on what had happened, you could answer the question.
  • The Unity of Science as a Working Hypothesis

Paul Oppenheim published "The Unity of Science as a Working Hypothesis" with Hilary Putnam in 1958. Their writing focused on arguing for the unity of science. The unity of science theory focuses on stating that although there are many different branches of study, they all are unified under the term science. They are in tiers from the bottom which starts with logic and works up through mathematics and physics and etcetera. Link text
