    Lesson: To obey is better than to sacrifice, we should be striving to please God, not being a peoples pleaser.

    Accomplishments: Captured Jerusalem, Built the City of David, Brought the Ark to Jerusalem, Planned for God's Temple
    Lesson: Mastered Repentance. Always be willing to humble yourself before God, repent and change whenever you are confronted with sin. Learning to really view sin for what it is and approach it the same way as God does, by utterly destroying it.

    Solomon

    Accomplishments: Building God’s Temple, Expanded the Kingdom, Built up the Military, Brought peace and prosperity to all of Israel
    Lesson: You have to go wholeheartedly after God, you cannot compromise or let the ways of the world seep into your religion or life, else it will pull you away. If you are not wholeheartedly following God, you are not following God.

    Rehoboam

    Kingdom: Judah
    Start/End: Good/Evil
    Reign Duration: 17 Years
    Accomplishments: Taxed the land harder (leading to the split), Warred with Jeroboam, Built 15 fenced cities for defense in Judah
    Lesson: 2 Chr 11:17,12:1 show that Rehoboam followed in the steps of David but only until he was established and strong, then he forsook God. Some people are only in religion for what they can get. Instead we must be loyal and humble seeking how we may serve.

    Accomplishments: First King of the Ten Tribes after the split, Turned Israel against God and the House of David, Created False Religion and False Holy Days
    Lesson: Rejecting God and the Throne of David is a capital sin and will not go unpunished, for this sin Israel suffered much and Jeroboam's house was cut off completely.

    Lesson: You can have moments of success when you rely on God (2 Ch 13:18) however it makes no difference if your heart is no perfect before God and you do not change your way of living (1 Ki 15:3)

    Lesson: Against Asa came a host of one thousand thousand (2 Ch 14:9) and he responded by placing the battle in God’s hand and looking to Him for the strength (2 Ch 14:11).

    Lesson: 1 Ki 21:27-29 says Ahab did mourn and fast in response to the correction of God. Yet there is no mention of actual repentance. When pricked by the word of God, we must take strong, sudden action, else like Ahab we will just return to our old evil ways.

    Accomplishments: Strengthened the cities of Judah, Removed the high places and groves, Had a strong alliance with Israel
    Lesson: He recognized that Godly education was vital for the success of the nation and took action to supply it by sending princes and Levites throughout the land to instruct the people in the law. Also he appointed judges to keep the people from trespassing against God.

    Lesson: God is constantly trying to reach us and show us what we are capable of with him and yet if we do not humble ourselves, repent, and obey then what good is it? Joram was part of an incredible miracle with the defeat of Moab, what an opportunity and yet he let it fall to the ground.

    Accomplishments: Suffered from much war, Turned the hearts of the people against God, Died of an incurable bowel disease
    Lesson: 2 Ki 8:19, 2 Ch 21:7 We see this throughout Judah when a wicked king reigns, God specifically mentions how he refrained from destroying them to ensure the Davidic Covenant was upheld. This shows God will never break His promises, rather He lets them guide His actions.

    Lesson: Once again you can see God's hand in protecting the royal line of David by preserving the life of Joash.

    Jehu

    Kingdom: Israel
    Start/End: Good/Evil
    Reign Duration: 28 Years
    Accomplishments: Kills Joram, Ahaziah, and Jezebel, Cuts off the house of Ahab, Slew all the worshippers of Baal in Israel and their priests, Destroyed the house of Baal and its images
    Lesson: Jehu followed the sins of Jeroboam. What a sad ending to a man who with vigor carried out God’s word and achieved such mighty deeds. Serving God cannot just be when it suits you, it must be continual no matter what.

    Joash

    Kingdom: Judah

    Reign Duration: 40 Years
    Accomplishments: Repaired the house of God
    Lesson: He was raised in the temple being instructed by the High Priest Jehoiada. But when Jehoiada died he served other gods. He was so far removed from God that he had Zechariah the son of Jehoiada stoned for delivering God’s correction to him. Our religion cannot be someone else's it must be ours, else we will repeat the mistakes of Joash.

    Jehoahaz

    Kingdom: Israel
    Start/End: Evil/Evil
    Reign Duration: 17 Years
    Lesson: Taken captive by the king of Syria, Jehoahaz cried out to God for deliverance, which God provided, yet neither him nor the remaining Israelites actually turned and followed God. They wanted the deliverance but they were not willing to give up their evil ways. Like many of the Protestants today they only were interested in God when they ‘needed’ Him.

    Jehoash

    Kingdom: Israel

    Reign Duration: 16 Years
    Accomplishments: Smote Syria three times claiming back the cities that his father lost, Defeated Judah breaking down the wall of Jerusalem and raided God’s House as well as the King’s treasury
    Lesson: What is amazing is how persistent God was in offering His rebellious people chances to repent, working miracles to show He was still there, and yet every time they rejected the opportunity to return to Him.

    Amaziah

    Kingdom: Judah

    Reign Duration: 29 Years
    Accomplishments: Avenged the death of his father, Military victory against Edom and took the city Selah, Lost a battle against Israel
    Lesson: If we are not humble, grateful, and approaching our religion with a perfect heart how easy it is for us to forget God’s miracles and intervention in our lives and instead put our trust in ourselves or other material items. This is the mistake of Amaziah.

    Jeroboam II

    Kingdom: Israel
    Start/End: Evil/Evil
    Reign Duration: 41 Years
    Accomplishments: Restored the coast of Israel, Brought a resurgence to Israel, Used by God to save Israel from being blotted out
    Lesson: Israel is getting down to its final years before entering captivity and God is still trying to give them one last opportunity to repent. Yet Jeroboam II reigning in the spirit of Jeroboam I chose to reject God and the Davidic Throne and instead chose death for his nation.

    Uzziah/Azariah

    Kingdom: Judah

    Reign Duration: 52 Years
    Accomplishments: Built Eloth, Defeated the Philistines, Built cities around Ashdod and among the Philistines, Won battles against the Arabians and Mehunims, Built many towers and increased fortifications
    Lesson: We cannot become complacent in our religion or start mixing in our own customs or practices. We must maintain the purity of God and not add or subtract to His commands and ordinances.

    Lesson: Here was a king who remained faithful to God. So many other kings had great starts and were on fire for God and yet let their hearts be turned to wickedness later on, whereas Jotham remained constant.

    Lesson: When you look to your own self for the solution you will never find it. Ahaz spent his life relying on his own human reasoning to resolve the problems Judah faced and he failed becoming much distressed.

    Hoshea

    Kingdom: Israel

    Reign Duration: 9 Years
    Accomplishments: The final king of Israel, became servant to Assyria and later tried to make league with the king of Egypt to rebel against Assyria, so Israel was taken captive

    Hezekiah

    Accomplishments: Repaired God's House, Had the Levites sanctify themselves, Destroyed the high places, Smote the Philistines, Stopped serving the Assyrians, Built Hezekiah's Tunnel
    Lesson: When trials come, when we are challenged or tempted, be like Hezekiah and spread the matter before God and let God work it out. Just as God dealt with the Assyrians so will He handle your trials.

    Manasseh

    Kingdom: Judah

    Reign Duration: 55 Years
    Accomplishments: Built a great wall outside the city of David, Cleansed God's House of the idols, altars, and strange gods
    Lesson: He caused the people to sin more than any of the nations they drove out of the promise land. Yet in captivity we see Manasseh finally learn the lesson and repent before God. God responded mercifully by allowing him to return to Jerusalem and be restored to the throne.

    Lesson: When you are corrected by God, approach it with a humble clothe renting mentality and then get to work. Like Josiah, spy out the sin and utterly destroy it. This account has a very strong ULB message for us about cleansing our lives completely of sin.
