    The Yellow Book was written in 1984 by Sony and Phillips. The Yellow Book described how the CD-ROM works and is the standard for the CD-ROM. The CD-ROM was later introduced in June of 1985.

    The first BluRay prototype disc was shown to the public in October 2000. The BluRay player prototype was unveiled in April 2003, and was released to the general public in June 2006.
