    German-Soviet Nonaggresion Pact
    Link The German-Soviet Nonaggression pact was a treaty signed between Hiter and Stalin to insure nonagression against one another in the war. This came as a surprise to the world. This pact allowed Germany to invade Poland more or less unopposed. Hitler would later break this pact by invading the Soviet Union.

    Link The germans successfully invaded Poland on September 1st, 1939.
    Warsaw surrendered on September 27th, 1939 to the German forces. This caused France and Britian to declare war on Germany shortly after. Poland remained under German occupation until January 1945.

    Link The first navel battle of World War II. Took place in the battle of the south atlantic on December 13th, 1939. The American's royal navel battled it out with the German's Graf Spee. Though the Graf Spee was successful in it's task, it was also destroyed in the process. This trade proved hurtful to the Germans.

    Link The Battle of Crete was a battled started with Nazi airborne invasions. The Germans suffered heavy casualities against U.S, Greek and Cretan forces. This lead the Allies to believe that they were bound for victory. However, communication failures on the Allies part, followed by a mass of German paratroops, forced the Allies to retreat and evacuate, losing the battle.

    linkOperation Barbarossa was a German Operation to invade the Soviet Union. Adolf Hitler briefly described his desires to conquer the Soviet Territories in the book Mein Kampf. This operation rendered the previous German-Soviet Nonagreesion pact null and void, bringing the Soviet Union into World War II on the side of the Allies. The Germans were later pushed out of the Soviet Union, ending operation Barbarossa in failure for the Germans.

    Link The Battle of the Bismarck sea was a small naval battle that took place in the south west pacific. In this battle, American and Australian Naval forces sunk eight Japanese transporter ships and four destroyers. The attempts to fortify Lae by the Japanese failed and were discountinued after this.

During the couple months they met continuesly, they discussed how post-war Germany would be divided. While Truman and Churchhill were mainly agreed on government while Stalin wasn't in favor of democracy and elections.

    link VJ day marked the end of the war with the surrender of the Axis powers, specifically Japan. Presedent Truman annoucened VJ day to be on September 2nd. However, news of the surrender actually reached the United States on August 15th.
