    Battle of Britain

    America joined the war and was no longer neutral. They gave Britain 50 destroyers in exchange for naval bases. To defend Americas coast Congress allowed the construction of new planes. To help Britain out the allowed them to borrow supplies and weapons needed for war but it must be returned once it was over. Hitler saw the lend-lease act as a declaration of war and began attacking American ships. Hitler started a blitz on Britain. Bombs poured each night from September to the following May.

    Operation Barbarossa

    In 1941 Hitler broke the German-Soviet non-aggression pact. He planned to invade them and take all of their resources and land. It was the largest land invasion in history. To stop and slow the German armies Stalin told some of his men to move east and destroy rails and food and shelters. In December of 1941 Germany began to retreat due to exhaustion and they couldn’t win.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch

    Britain and American combat troops began pushing Germans towards each other. By 1943 the Allies had pushed Axis forces out of Africa. During a meeting Prime Minister Churchill convinced President Roosevelt to make the Axis go up to Italy where they would have no choice but to surrender. At the same time the Army Air-Force was sending hundreds and thousands of bombers to England for a bombing campaign against Germany.

    Operation Overlord

    The Western Allies started an amphibious invasion as they attacked Normandy. Many allied land and air forces joined the campaign. The Normandy invasion started overnight with huge air attacks and naval bombardments. In the morning there were amphibious landings on five beaches. They failed on the first day but progressed as they kept going. They started an invasion on southern France and that eventually led to the Germans retreat.

    It contained the heads of government of the United States, United Kingdom and the Soviet Union. They were discussing Europe’s post-war reorganization. It was mainly to discuss the establishment of the nations.
  • Battle of Berlin

    Battle of Berlin

    Two Soviet Union army groups attacked Berlin from the east and south and another overran a German army positioned north of Berlin. The Red Army eventually made it to the center of the city due to armies and positions that weren’t good enough. At the end, millions were homeless and the economy of Europe had collapsed.
