  • Amoco Cadiz Oil Spill

    The Amoco Cadiz Oil Spill was caused by a massive wave hitting the boat and causing a steering failure. It happened on Portsall Rocks, 2 km from the coast of Brittany, France. The US NOAA estimates that 220,880 tonnes of oil was spilt into the water.
  • Castillo de Bellver Oil Spill

    The Castillo de Bellver Oil Spill happened when the Spanish oil tanker Castillo de Bellver exploded 80km off Table Bay, South Africa. The ship broke in two and spilt 50-60 tonnes of oil.
  • The Mingbulak (or Fergana Valley) Oil Spill

    The Mingbulak Oil Spill was caused from a blowout and spilt 285,000 tonnes of oil, making it the fifth largest oil spill in history.
  • Kolva River Oil Spill

    The Kolva River Oil Spill was caused by a breach in a corroded oil pipeline. It happened in the Russian Arctic and spilt 84 million gallons of oil.
  • BP’s Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

    BP's Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill happened in April 2010 at the Gulf Coast Gulf of Mexico. It was caused by an explosion destroying concrete used to stop oil from leaking, spilling 134 million gallons.
