Their home was larger than anything they had ever lived in. It was a two-story house with a large yard.

Mawi's brother, Hntsa Eyesus was conceived in Sudan and born in the United States.

Mawi's father teaches him and his siblings about strangers and tells them to be kind to them because they are angels sent from God. Charlene, one of their angels, comes into the children's lives and makes a lasting impact. She spent time playing, singing and teaching them about God.

Mawi and Tewolde beat up two bullies from school, Frank and Mbago. Frank and Mbago's parents show up at Mawi's house to discuss the altercation with Mawi's parents. Mawi and Tewolde get into trouble and from that point the families became close friends.

Haileab tells Tewolde and Mawi that when bullied at school they are not to fight back so they will avoid getting expelled. Tewolde and Mawi feel betrayed.

Tewolde and Mawi liken Halloween to Hoyo, Hoyo, which they celebrated annually in Sudan. On Halloween the boys get into mischief and steal candy from two young boys. Unbeknownst to Mawi at the time, the older boy would become his best friend.

Tewolde, Mawi, and their friend steal a parking meter and bring it to a tunnel to try and open it and steal the money inside. A police officer finds them in the tunnel trying to open the parking meter and Tewolde and Mawi run away from him.

The man was standing outside the library freezing. He told Tewolde and Mawi that he had lost his job and never got another one and probabaly never would. Tewolde stayed outside with the man while Mawi went into the library.

Tewolde goes through a transformation called Libee Migbar. It means developing a heart.

Tewolde found him a job, housing, and helped him with money and never said a word to anyone about it.

He never graduated from high school. He was killed during the middle of his senior year.

He is no longer highly regarded and respected and his skills as a dresser do not translate to America. He becomes a janitor, his eyesight starts to fail him so he loses the job as a janitor. There begins his downward spiral to a beetle.

Berhe tells him stories of his trip back to the homeland. Of the stories that the elders told Berhe of Haileab. Mawi has a new found respect for his father after realizing he was regarded as a hero back in their country and still is a hero.

He was riding his bike home and was hit by a drunk driver. He never got to see Mawi graduate from college.

His father's dream for him had come true and his mom was able to witness it. Haileab would have been so proud.
