    The German generals went at first very friendly, to gain the trust from the Jews. But little by little, they imposed their laws and took many rights away from the Jews.

    Get out of your houses!
    The Germans took out the Jews from their homes, bordered the town, and told them to take only few possessions with them. They were taken to ghettos.

    Fire, Fire!
    All the Jews were taken out of Sighet in railway cattle cars. They were told that the same bodies that started had to get to the camps or they killed everyone. On their way to the concentration camp, they had really bad conditions because they didn't have seats or food.

    When they arrived to Auschwitz they really saw flames rising from a tall chimney. As Mrs. Schächter's foreshadows in the train.

    They arrive to Aushwtiz, were they spent only a couple of days and then they are tranported to Birkenau; Elie and his father were seperated from there family. This was the last time Elie saw his mother and little sister.

    Someone told Elie and his father to lie sbout their age so they were able to work in the concentration camp, instead of going directly to the gas chambers.

    Elie worked in an electrical-fittings factory at Buna. In this camp he saw terrible thinks for example they forced all the prisioners to watch the hanging of other prisoners in the camp courtyard.

    Elie passes selection and thinks his father didn't, but they realize he did and feel very relieved.

    Akiva told the people to say the Kadish for him but they forgot although they made a promise.

    Elie saw the Kapo having sex with a French girl and he catches him spying on them, so he beats Elie.

    Elie injures his foot at the time that the Russians are approaching the camps. He later regrets the decision of not staying in the Infirmary with his dad, given that they were liberated some time later.

    From Gliwitz to Buchenwald they were transported in trains, in every wagon they were like 100 people. They didn't have neither food or water. They make special stops because during this journey people die so the living people trough out the corpses.

    Dysentry and a blow to the head were the causes of Shlomo’s death. His last words were his son’s name: Eliezer. Eliezer awakens in the morning and his father’s body is gone.

    They needed to march rapidly without stopping. Zelman for exaple fell to the ground. Anyone that felt to the ground, was shot or left there to die. After marching they put themselves into the snow. There were dead corpses everywere in the snow.

    Free at last…
    Eliezer feels guilty – but he also feels relieved that his father is dead and releases himself from all responsibilities. From now on, he can only look towards himself.
  • Liberation

    Elie Wiesel was finally liberated by the Americans and then he was send to a hospital because he got very sick. Few weeks later, still in the hospital, Elie wanted to see himself in the mirror because he didn’t know how he looked since he left Sighet. He was impressed because the only thing he could see was a corpse, and that image would never leave his memory.

    Years later, Elie witnessed how people amused themselves in the same way the Germans did with them in the trains, they threw coins to the "natives" who dove to retrieve them.
