Niels Bohr, whose full name is Niels Henrick David Bohr was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 7, 1885. He is the son of Christian and Ellen Bohr and is the 2nd of three children.
-
Bohr’s first contribution to the emerging idea of quantum physics started during this time. He conducted postdoctoral research, but the year prior, it was established experimentally that the atom consists of a heavy positively charged nucleus with substantially lighter negatively charged electrons circling around it at considerable distance.
-
He got married to Margrethe Norlund and down the line they had 6 children
-
Niels Bohr introduced the Bohr model of the atom. It was the first model to incorporate the quantum theory. This model describes the movement of electrons based on the correspondence of their energy levels.
-
He founded the university’s Institute of Theoretical Physics, which he would head for the rest of his life.
-
Bohr received the 1922 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on atomic structures, and he would continue to come up with revolutionary theories. He worked with Werner Heisenberg and other scientists on a new quantum mechanics principle connected to Bohr's concept of complementarity, which was initially presented at an Italian conference in 1927.
-
Another physicist, by the name of Albert Einstein, did not agree with all of Bohr's assertions, and their talks became renowned in scientific communities. They both had their own theories and point of views when it came to this topic

He came up with the Compound-nucleus model in 1936. He formulated his revolutionary compound nucleus model, where the nucleus is transferred to a temporarily unstable compound state during a reaction, and then it eventually returns to a stable state once the reaction is over. The model explains why a neutron is captured instead of being rereleased. He used this model and the liquid drop model to explain more theories of his.

In 1950, he wrote an open letter to the United Nations calling for internationalization of nuclear energy, which presaged the creation of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
