    The Beginning

Niels Bohr was born on October 7th, 1885 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was born into a very smart family. His dad was a physiologist and his mom was an educator. There was no doubt to his success. He attended Copenhagen University and got his masters in physics. This is where his discoveries marked an important milestone in physics.

    Bhor's Model of an Atom
Bohr took it upon himself to figure out Rutherford's atomic model problem. Rutherford believed electrons went randomly around a nucleus and could not explain how electrons didn’t run out of energy. Bohr concluded that electrons move in a stable orbit around the nucleus. Each orbit had different levels. Electrons can jump back and forth orbits. When jumping from a higher energy orbit (furthest away from nucleus) to a lower energy orbit, a particle of energy will escape in the form of a proton.
  • Nobel Prize

Bohr's received a Nobel Price for his research. His contribution in the sciences helped other physicists understand why atoms emitted light in certain wavelengths. This opened up a new way of understanding the building blocks of everything we know. The elements we currently know are all unique in their way and it can give us a better understanding on each one of them opening a new realm in physics.

    Maintaining His Research

Niels Bohr did not stop his research there. He continued to contribute to his school and became the Professor of Theoretical Physics and published roughly 115 writing pieces. One of his four sons also became a physicist and receive a Nobel Prize for his work later, too. Bohr enlightened minds while continuing to enlighten his. He gave a new insight on the building blocks of our universe.
