Nielsbohr

Niels Bohr 1885-1962

  • Birth

Niels Bohr was born in Copenhagen to Christian Bohr and Ellen Adler. He grew up in a very education-oriented environment.
  • Work Published

The Acadamy of Sciences in Copenhagen offered a prize for the solution to a scientific problem. Niels began "an experimental and theoretical investigation of the surface tension by means of oscillating fluid jets", and his work "was published in the Transactions of the Royal Society" ("Niels Bohr").
  • Master's Degree

He earned his Master's degree at Copenhagen University.
  • Theoretical Absorption of Alpha Rays

In Professor Rutherford's laboratory, Niels Bohr "carried out a theoretical piece of work on the absorption of alpha rays" ("Niels Bohr") and then started to study the structure of atoms. He presented a picture of atomic structure that is still used to explain properties of the elements ("Niels Bohr").
  • Publications

  • Nobel Prize

Niels Bohr was rewarded the Nobel Prize in "(r)ecognition of his work on the structure of atoms" ("Niels Bohr").
  • Atomic Energy Project

He helped with the Atomic Energy Project when he spent time in England and America. This project was meant to train for using atomic energy peacefully.
  • Atomic Physics

Niels Bohr wrote an "Open Letter to the United Nations" to set his views as wanting atomic physics to be applied peacefully, and "advocated a development towards full openness between nations" ("Niels Bohr").
  • Death
