Up until 2011, the helmets that were made in the 1980's were being used. Then in 2012, they had introduced another type of helmet that was, even more, safer than the one that was being used from the 1980's to 2011. It was 10x's better the the ones that came berfore the ones made in the 1980's.

Since the Randell helmets came out in 2012 the NFL has been using these types of helmets ever since.
