approximatly 1200 years ago. They natives came from Asia through the Bering land bridge approximetely 30,000 years after glaciations lowered the oceans sea level. They gradually occupied the entire North American continent. There are other hypotheses, but this one is the most plausible. -

Iroquios and Algonquian nations traded with eachother, different native nations were regularly at war with eachother
Even though they were spread out over a vast territory, the nations were in close contact with each other. The Iroquios would cultivate things like corn, beans and squash and tobacco and trade their surplus with the Algonquians for their hunting and fishing goods. These trades sealed political alliances between nations, which caused wars. -

Their geographic distribution was related to their lifestyles, Iroquois nations settled down on the rich soil of the St. Lawrence valley beacause they were sedentary and practiced agriculture. -

The Algonquians lived in the Canadian Shield and the Appalatian Mountains because they were not sedentary and did not practice agriculture therefore they did not need fertle soil. -
