    Gold was discovered in California which started gold fever. People came from all over to try to find gold and to make them rich. Most people did not come back with more than they brought with them. It was important because it brought people to California which helped shaped it as a state.

    Abraham Lincoln was the president during the Civil War. He tried to mend the country after the war ended. His assassin killed one of the most important presidents in American history.
