My Reading History

  • Reading Before School ?

    Reading Before School ?

This is the time between ages 1-4 years old. At this time, I'm sure like most people, I did not know how to read. I could remember seeing letters put together, knowing that they formed words but not actually knowing what they were. (1998-2002)
  • Kindergarten

    Kindergarten

I come from a Spanish speaking home so I started to learn how to read and speak English through watching PBS kids. I loved to read the paper books kindergarten teachers would provide and would practice reading them at home.

    1st - 2nd Grade

I struggled with reading because I didn't really have someone to help me at home. I would read at low reading levels. Started to use Leap Frog books and absolutely loved them! Would help me a lot because of the audio/headphone assistance.

    3rd - 4th Grade

I got better at reading and had an obsession with reading Junie B. Jones books. I don't know why but I'm glad that i did because it actually got me into reading more and always going to the library to check out more.

    5th - 6th Grade

My school had us do reading logs challenge ourselves to 100's, 200's etc. reading log goals that consisted of reading for at least 30 minutes and having parent or someone sign your log. I was one out of 3 students to make it to 900 reading logs! Also had an obsession with reading Magic Tree House books now.

    7th - 8th Grade

Started reading bigger chapter books. Remember reading Holes as a class and loving it. I kept reading at home all the time and began to get into mystery books. Had great teachers at the time that would always push me to read more books.
  • 9th - 10th Grade

    9th - 10th Grade

Coming into high school I began to read less books at home if they weren't part of the homework (sad). Though, my English teacher was such a great motivator and pushed me to read more. The book "Speak" will always remind me of her and this time. Each group had a different book to read and she had a personal connection with our group, she always motivated us and I was the group leader.

    11th - 12th Grade

Did a lot of reading during these years. A lot of heavy chapter reading, play reading, Spanish class reading. One major memory was reading "The Crucible" and having to re-read and analyze and create analyzation sheets for every page/important quotes.

    New to College

College brought me a different reading experience. Was introduced to college level reading textbooks and papers which really helped me improve on my vocabulary and writing.
  • Now

    Now

Besides school readings, I have done a bad job of being consistent on reading. I have cut back on reading but I am hoping I can get back into it soon. I find myself reading more poetry now but I also want to start reading motivational and life improvement/growth/success books.
