Born in US of Puerto Rican parents, I would soon be exposed to two different languages.

After hearning only Spanish at home, I started school in an all-English environment.

After only one semester in an American school, my parents decided to move back to Puerto Rico. This marked the beginning of my formal education in Spanish. I never received any exposure to English al home.

I started High School, where the same as in Elementary School I took an English class every day. Little by little, I was able to speak and understand the language in an academic setting.

I started my Bachelor's in Education. I further developed reading comprehension abilities both in Spanish and English.

During my graduate studies, most reading materials were in English. Tests and papers were in Spanish.

This year my school is participating in the BEC-21 program. This has given me much greater exposure to the English language and much greater linguistic awareness.

I started courses towards my Certification in Bilingual Education. My English has been improving consistently because of all the reading and writing I have been doing.
