    Benito was born in Italy. He was raised in a strong socialist household.

    He fled Italy to avoid military service and relocated to Switzerland. When he was there, he became active in the Italian socialist movement and was arrested for spreading propaganda.

    He was sent back to Italy after his arrest and was forced to join the military, he then served in the military for two years.

    Mussolini wrote and distributed socialist papers and novels and started creating a name for himself in the socialist community.

    Much of Italy supported the war, though socialists didn't. Mussolini still supported it.

    He spent years looking for support and fundraising, then him and his followers overtook the prime minister in Rome. They took power from teh king and began setting up a new form of government.
  • The start of a new government

    He had much of the nation's support and passed laws that pleased nationalists, liberals, and nearly everyone else which made the people gain more trust and respect towards him as a leader figure.
  • Small changes towards dictatorship

    Not everyone loved Mussolini and a few argued against his word trying to convince the public he had been dishonest in his political accomplishments. After this, Mussonlini came clean; admitting he had not been completely democratic.
  • A moment toward Italy's youth

    In order to spread his beliefes, he took control of Italian school systems. He taught his doctorine to raise generations of citizens who would follow his word.
  • A police state

    Over the span of 2-3 years, he slowly changed laws granting him more power. By 1927, he could do whatever he pleased, making the nation into a "police state".
  • Gaining control of the business sector

    By changing laws over time, he had gained control of many strong Italian businesses. By 1935, Mussolini had calimed control over 2/3rds of businesses in Italy.
  • WW2

    Strongly influenced by Hitler, when WW2 broke out, Italy quickly sided with Germany. After that the allied powers soon sent forces after Mussolini.
  • Mussolini's end to ruling

    Italians grew steadily unhappier under Mussolini's rule and finally declared his time as ruler was over in 1942.
  • Mussolini's capture and death

    He was then captured in 1943, but escaped. Then in 1945 he was captured again being shot and killed.
