  • The Declaration of Independence

    The members of the Second Continental Congress got together in Philadelphia in order to sign The Declaration of Independence which made the 13 colonies be free from British rule. The colonies saw themselves as independent and free.
  • Constitution Ratified

    Constitution Ratified
    The Constitution of the United States is ratified and now replaces the Articles of Confederation as the supreme law of the land. "We The People" are the first three words in the document which shows who will be in charge of the government.
  • Thomas Jefferson Elected President

    Thomas Jefferson is elected president and this is the first peaceful transfer from Federalists to Republicans. John Adams was defeated.
  • Lousiana Purchase

    The United States doubles the size of its territory by the signing of the treaty with France, giving the US all the land from the Mississippi River to the edge of the Rocky Mountains. This would continue the idea American expansion which seemed to always be going West.
