Joseph Smih publishes the translation of his golden plates, and founds the Church of Christ, or the Church of Latter Day Saints in New York. Him and his followers are called mormons. They believed in faith to Jesus and atonement through him.

In 1833,fearful of the growing mormonism, protestents in Missouri drive the Mormons away, back to Ohio. In 1837, the Mormon bank in Kirtland, Ohio collapsed leading to Joseph Smith moving back to northern Missouri. Again, the Missouri settlers drove the mormons away in the 1838 Mormon War. By the end of the war, Joseph Smith was imprisoned in Missouri.
