The Mitsubishi Zero was fast and really light because a new top secret 7075 aluminium alloy was developed by Sumitomo Metal Industries. Thee aluminium alloy was better than the others in that time.

The Mitsubishi Zero engine was produced by Nakajima Sakae. A 14 cylinder air cooled radial engine. These engines were used in many planes for the Zeros before and after the war.

Until mid-1943 the US airforces were surprised about how the zero was built. The Zero weighed 5,200 pounds and thats half less than the United Navy fighters. Some tested the Zero and they were surprised how the plane can turn.
