  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    An agreement between the North and South that Missouri would become a slave state. It outlawed slavery in the former louissiana territory north of parrallel 36°30 north. This event helped lead to the civil war by adding another slave state and contributing to the civil war's argument.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    In 1849, california requested that the state could become a free state when entering the union. This request upsetted the balance of the North and the South. The Fugitive slave act was amended and the slave trade in D.C. was abolished. A territoral goverment was created in Utah. This helped lead to the Civil War by adding a big state as a free state which made the south mad.

    The Kansas-Nebraska Act
    This act allowed citizens in the Kansas and Nebraska territories to decide if there was slavery. It also acted as a repeal for the Missouri Compromise. Years later after Kansas had not been allowed to become a state, Kansas became a state and was a free state.
  • The Dread Scott Decision

    The Dread Scott Decision
    Dread Scott, who was a slave, went to the Supreme Court to sue for his freedom. The court told him that he had no right, being an African American, to sue for his freedom. The Misouri Compromise was also abolished, which allowed slavery in all the territories. It helped lead to the civil war bygiving unfair rights to African Americans and that made the North mad.

    The Election of 1860
    The Republicans were all behind Lincoln, but the Democrats were divided between the North and the South. South Democrats were supporters of Breckinridge. North Democrats nominates Douglas and supported him. Lincoln was not even on the ballot in ten southern states but won with just 40% of the votes but they were all in the North. It helped lead to the C.W. by making the South was upset because Lincoln was elected.

    South Carolina left the Union and the Civil Wars first shots were fired at Fort Sumner and the battle was bloodless with notnone death. The Civil War between the North and the South was now on.
