    President Diem and Us Reaction

Ngo Dinh Diem was born in 1905 and visited the US in the 1940s with the intention of convincing US officials he would be fit to run South Vietnam when the French left. Even meeting with JFK, Diem had the support of the USA and came to power in 1955 because of this support. It was only then that the US realized he was not who he said he was, he started rejecting their support and even went as far as to threaten citizens to vote for him in the Vietnamese presidential election.
