On September 3rd 1952 Mercy opened its doors to the first incoming class that consisted of 199 freshman. At this time the structure in its entirety was not yet completed.

The original Mercy High School building was finally completed in 1954

On June 11, 1956 the first senior class graduated from Mercy and it consisted of 173 seniors

In 1958 Mercy became a charter member, along with other schools, that was accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association

In January 2020 Mercy announced that it would unfortunately close at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. This was due to a constant decrease in students being enrolled and an increasing cost of living in San Francisco making a private school education less affordable.

On June 1st, 2020 Mercy SF finally closed its doors after 68 years of standing and became part of San Francisco history.

The Chinese American international school which was founded in 1981 took over the former Mercy building. After 40 years of renting out spaces they have finally managed to settle in a what seems to be a permanent space.
