There was one popularized look that swept across the Atlantic. High button-stances, slim lapels, high arm holes, and high paper shirt collars are in. They paired double-breasted vests with single breasted jackets. They all looked alike.

The roaring 20's focused on showing how rich you were. This meant that they had heavily embellished suits, tie pins/bars, and color everywhere. The shirts, ties, and suits were full of color. Pants were baggy but high-waisted and jackets were a little more loose.

During the Great Depression, wide double-breasted suits in drab colors became popular, as did wide-legged pants.

We were at war and they had to use natural fibers for military uniforms. Fabric was used sparingly. Three piece suits, cuffs, and ticket pockets became popular. Rayon was used instead of wool and tweed. Gary Cooper was an actor who wore this type of suit.

Dark suits, white shirts, dark ties, and white pocket squares are the suit to wear right now. Jackets and pants fit loosely and Elvis Presley really worked the loose pants.
