Another dressier shoe that was popular in the 1800's was a mix between the loafer and the common boot (ankle boot). This boot was made of leather and cloth with a small heel. Some of these shoes were accessorized with buttons or threading. Even though this was a dressier shoe many men wore this with their everyday clothing. -
In the 1820's the fashionable shoe for men to wear was the flat slipper. The shoe typically consisted of a three-inch high cloth top that laced on the inner side and a leather vamp that supported a long, narrow, and squared toe. -
The knee high boot was only popular for a short period of time. Most men only wore this shoe for riding after the common boot, also known as the short ankle boot, became the new style. -
In 1860 men began wearing more boot like footwear instead of "slippers." The boot was made out of leather and was perfect for more outdoor activities. -
The most popular footwear in the 1880's was the Loake Loafer. This shoe choice was considered much fancier and was certainly different from the footwear in the past. Many men paired this shoe with their nicer clothing.
