    Tiny tobacco seeds were planted in seedbed.Was in a protected area.They were protected by pine branches. The seedlings were watered and weeded.

    Tobacco ruined the soil after four or five years and new fields had to be constantly.

  • tobacco plants were large enough to transplant

    in preperation for planting, soil in the field was hoed into small mounts or hills. Each tobacco was set in a mount to give it plenty of growing space

    as the tobacco grew in the field it had to be checked often for tobacco worms . the only way to remove the worm was to go though the field and pick them off each leaf. weeds gorwing around the plants had to be pulled. if there had been little rain the plants had to be watered.
