  Because of his international ties, Maury was sent to England as a spokesperson for the Confederacy. He was successful in obtaining war vessels for the South

  In 1868 Maury returned to Lexington Virginia, and became a professor of Meteorology at Virginia Military Institute.

  Maury passed away, and was temporarily laid to rest in Lexington. He was later moved to Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond
