Martin Luther was born on November 10, 1983. Plague was raging in Germany at this time and 1/4 of all children had died. -
Martin Luther earns a liberal arts degree. He went to the Univeristy of Erfurt. -
Luther earned his Masters Degree in 1505 from Erfurt. A few months after that he vowed to become a monk. -
This degree is a terminal degree in the academic discipline of theology. He also became part of theological faculty at the Univeristy of Wittenberg. -
Martin Luther spent these years lecturing and trying to become closer with God. He lectured on The Psalms, Romans, Galatians, and Hebrews. -
In 1517 Luther posted the 95 Theses, upsetting the Church. They were upset on his moral objections to the indulgences. This sparked the Protestant Reformation. -
Luther wrote a series of pamphlet on the Church and the printing press allowed his ideas to become more widely known in Europe. He denied the authority of the rulers of the Church. -
Martin Luther received a papal bull that gave hum 60 days to retract his sayings on the Church or he would be excommunicated. He burned the papal bull. -
After refusing to take back everything he said and published about the Catholic Church, Luther was excommunicated. At this time he was began translating the New Testament himself. On his way back to Wittenberg he was taken by soliders to Wartburg Castle. -
Luther came out of hiding at Wartburg and returned to Wittenburg wehere the theses had been posted. Change was sparked within the people.
