Andreas Von Carlstadt and Martin Luther debated with John Eck. During the debate Eck forced Luther to admit that he agreed with hus, who was a heretic. (but this only strengthen Luthers resolve.)

Emperor Karl V called for the discussion to allow Cardinal Aleander (1480-1542) who was the Pope's ambassador, to examine Luther to see if he was a heretic. They decided that he was and he was banned from the Holy Empire.

Some people began to apply Luther's revolutinary ideas to society.German peasants' got over excited about the the reform and demanded an end to serfdom. So they went out and started burning monasteries. Luther didnt like the revolt and told the German princes to show no mercy so there armies crashed the revolt killing almost 100,00 people. People started to feel betrayed by luther and rejected his ideas
