  • Birth of Martin Luther King

    This was the day he was born. His father Micheal King named him Micheal Luther, later changed his name to Martin Luther in honor of the great sixteenth century reformer.
  • Martin's child/teen years

    When Martin was 15 he skipped senior year at how high his test scores were and went staright to Morehouse College. In Febuary 1948 he became a baptist minester.
  • Monntgomery's bus

    On this day United States Supreme court that this bus segregation laws unconstitutional. The next day MIA members voted to end this boycott. Martin Luther King was one of the first passengers on the bus.
  • Stride Toward Freedom

    Martin Luther KIng came out with his first book. The story with the bus boycott. During a book signing Izola Curry stabbed King he got rushed to the hospital.
  • The Alabama Protest

    Martin forged ahead with his protest campagin in Alabama. He was arrested and sent to jail, some clergy had said that african americans to wait for justice. After Martin was released from jail he continued the protest.
  • The Voting Rights

    King and other african american leaders watched president Lydon Johnson signed the Voting Rights act. A few months later the surpreme court called for the desergregation of public schools with "all deliberate speed."
  • Kings speech

    King spoke to a huge crowd of 12000 at the Chiago Freedom festival. Many people were amazed by his speech, people said it felt like he was talking to them.
  • Memphis

    KIng came to Memphis to lead 6,000 people in support of striking garbage collecters. This ended up in fighting and looting. Months later he came back and gave a speech called "I've Been to the Mountaintop".
  • Martin Luther Kings death

    Martin Luther KIng was shot on the balcony of his montel. This event created violence across the US. Many people were killed, the National Guards and federal troops were needed.
  • THe signing of Civil Rights Act

    President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. This was not a promise for the African's land but this brought them closer together.
