    When Martin Luther was nearly struck by lightning as a cry for mercy he screamed "I will become a monk". After making it out of the storm unharmed Luther decided to become a monk.

    Martin pinned a list 95 thesis to the church door complaining about things such as indulgences and relics and greedy popes. The time period where the church akcnowledged Luther and his followers and changed for the better is called the Reformation.

    Trip to Dit of Worms

    Martin started his journey to the Diet of Worms on April 2, 1521. The Diet of Worms is a formal assembly in the city of Worms. Luther was to meet the Emperor twice, who told him to take back his teachings but Luther refused to recant. No one could kill Luther for he was given a letter of safe conduct.

    Once Martin left the Diet of Woms and his letter of safe conduct had expired he arranged for himself to be kidnapped by his freiend, Friedrich the Wise. This kept Luther safe

    Luther translated the bible from Hebrew and Ancient Greek into German he did this when he was in hiding. The new version was very widely spread for it was in the language a majority of the peopel knew and thanks to the printing press numerous copies were printed.
