At the age of four Jean-Claude loses his mother

At only the age of 14 Jean-Claude joins the small seminary of St Jodard and then moves to another small seminary called "Alix".

Jean-Claude decides to move to a larger seminary in Lyon. This is the seminary of St Irenaeus. This is where he meets Jean-Claude Couverville, a fellow founder of the Marist fathers.

Twelve men, including Couverville, Champagnat and Colin hike thier way up the hill of Fouviere, up to the chapel of the Blessed Virgin and pledge their lives to the Society of Mary.

These and some other priests, including St Marcellin Champagnat, founder of the Marist Brothers are ordained.They are now fully pledged priests.

Father Couverville and Champagnat are sent to their parishes in Lyon Archdiocease, while the very shy Colin is sent to the village of Cerdon, in the Archdiocease of Belley to work with hi brother Fr Pierre.
