    Dred Scott Decision
    This was a case that was taken to the Supreme Court by an escaped slave that he was his own man after he was into a free state. They ruled that all blacks were not able to become an American citizen even if they were free. If they were a slave, they will always be a slave because they were considered "property" and must be returned to their owner.
  • Lincoln Assassination

    Lincoln Assassination
    While at a play in Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., Lincoln was murdered by a man named John Wilkes Booth who was a famous actor and went into hiding but was killed. This attack on Lincoln occured only five days after the Civil War ended.
  • Brown v. BOE

    This was a supreme court case that handled schools right here in Topeka, Kansas. It was the integrate the public schools and it was a case between Oliver Brown (Whose daughter was affected by segregation) and the Board of Education.

    Gideon v. Wainwright
    Gideon was accused of breaking into a bar in Florida and when he asked for a lawyer since he was too poor to afford one, they refused to give him one. he took this to the Supreme Court and now everyone has the right to be appointed to an attorney if they cannot afford their own.

    There was a Voting Rights Act passed that gave African Americans the right to vote and stopped the literacy tests that were occuring in the South.

    Joseph McCarthy was a Senator that accused a lot of government officials of being communists and many of them lost their jobs because of it.

    Nixon was caught on tape for a scandal move. He was talking to another man about his plan that was to have the CIA pressure the FBI to stop investigating the Watergate delimma because if they kept looking into it, Nixon said that they would reveil national security information. Nixon ended up resigning because of this.

    Reagan's "Tear Down this Wall" Speech
    President Reagan spoke to the citizens in West Berlin and the most famous line was about how they should tear the wall down. The wall was a reminder of the Cold War because the Communists built it in the summer of 1961 and a lot of bad memories came with it and it also was a huge separator for the city. Reagan wanted East and West Berlin to get along again and be one city.

    Clinton had an affair with Monica Lewinsky so she transferred to the Pentagon. While there, she told another women about the affair and the women recorded it. Clinton was put on trial and impeached. He was the second president ever.

    At 8:45 on this Tuesday morning, a plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. Then 18 minutes later, a second plane hit the South tower. The planes had been hijacked by members of the al Qaeda terrorist group under the rule of Osama bin Laden.
