    Marie Antoine was born in Paris, France. He obtained an apprenticeship with Sylvian Bailly, a famous pastry chef. He taught Marie Antoine to make pastries and encouraged him to read and write.
  • Where it started

    Marie Antoine began his career at age 15 as a kitchen helper in a Parisian restaurant. He then moved to work in a pastry shop where his sculptured confections reached the tables of Napoleon. He became chef of Talleyrand for 12 years. After that he became the chef of the Prince Regent of Great Britain for 2 years. His cuisine wars became famous for its decorative and elaborate display.

    Accomplishments
    His ideas included an emphasis on the artful presentation of dishes and on the use of fresh ingredients. He is considered the 'first celebrity" chef, and developed the house cuisine which is the rich, and elaborate cuisine of the upper classes of the 18th and 19th centuries. Marie distinguished himself from regional cuisines and created the bloodline of sauces, and introduced new style of chef hats. He also wrote 5 books on cooking and desserts during his final days
