Major Findings/Events that Has Helped Understand HID

By EppsC16
  • The Light Mircoscope

    The Light Mircoscope
Anton Van Leeuwenhoek was the first person to make and use a mircoscope. This extraordinary invention has allowed us to understand infecious diseases by being able to view mirco-orgonisms with the naked eye. Since then, many other mircoscopes have been invented to view the mircoorganisms with more detail.
  • Vaccines

    Vaccines
Vaccines have helped shape our understandings of preventing infecious diseases. By the twenth century, discoveries from vaccine reseach and development has helped reduce disease outbreaks significantly.
  • Diphtheria

    Diphtheria
Diphtheria is a toxic disease that affects the heart and nervous system. These bacilli stick on to the back of the throat until it eventually begans to block the pathway of air. When this pandimic broke out in 1850, Theodor Albrecht Edwin Klebs and August Johannes Friedrich Loeffler discovered a way to isolate the bacilli. This has helped shape the way we understand infectious diseases by incorparating an effective prevetion for this disease.
  • Pasteurisation

    Pasteurisation
Louis Pasteur invented pasteuristion to kill most of the pathogenic micro-organismes in food and drinks by using extreme heat. This has contributed to the way we understand infectious diseases by allowing us to continue this process.
  • Incubator

    Incubator
The incubator was invented to be able to observe different characteristics of organisms in a controlled enviroment. It has allowed us to distinguish the organisms that cause infectious diseases.
  • Sewage and Clean Water Treatement

    Sewage and Clean Water Treatement
In the Early 1900s, the medical advancment for water treatment was put in place to seperate drinking water from contaminated water. The many pathogens that can be transmitted though water had to be filtered and purified. This helped cities to become less filthy and to reduce the number of infectious diseases.
  • Salvaran

    Salvaran
A German chemist, Paul Ehrlich, help contribute to the understanding of the sexually tramitted infection, syphilis, by creating the drug, Salvaran. This drug that was once very toxic and painful to inject has now become penicillin.
  • Serologic Testing

    Serologic Testing
Serologic Testing is used to diagnose and control infectious diseases by identfling various antigens. Illnesses that are diagnosed through serologic tests include the following: brucellosis, syphillis, measles, amebiasis, and HIV. •syphilis
    •fungal infections
  • Fosfomycin

    Fosfomycin
This has contributed to out understanding of infections by allowing us to control outbreaks from gram-negative bactria that has become drug-resistant to many other drugs. In doing this, Fosfomycim has become a less toxic way to treat urinary tract infections.
  • Legionnaires'

    Legionnaires'
This is an airborne bacteria that was tramitted to victims after it was pummped through the air. This has enchaced our understanding of airborne infectious diseases. After this tragic event, the federal air conditions standard were changed to prevent this type of aireborne disease.
