    First settlement of the Virginia Colony and also served Captal during 1699.
  • Mayflower Compact Written

    Mayflower Compact Written
    The first governing document of the Plymouth Colony. Written by Saints fleeing religious persecution from James VI and I.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    An act of the parliament of England. It was a restatement in statutory form of the Declaration of Right. It also lays down limits on the powers of sovereign and sets out the rights of Parliament and rules for freedom of speech in Parliament, the requirement to regular elections to Parliament and the right to petition the monarch without fear of retribution.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    A new taz was being created called the stamp act. This new tax forced all American Colonists to pay for every piece of paper they printed. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Tensions were running high between the colonists and British soldiers stationed in Boston. A mob formed and began harrassing the british soldiers. In self defense the soldiers attacked with gun shots killing 5 people. However the soldiers were never given the order to shoot.
  • Boston Tea Party

    A political protest broke out in Boston, Massachusetts by the sons of Liberty. The British government set a tax policy on all the tea that was imported into the colonies. Officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain. Enraged a group of colonists jumped aboard the ships and threw the tea into the Boston Harbor.

    A series of laws passed by British Parliament, which caused outrage and resistance in the American Colonies.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    A meeting by all colonies to unit to show Great Britain that they were a unified people. A convention of delegates from twelve British North American colonies, 56 memebers were appointed by the legislative. It was in response to the Intolerable Acts.
  • American Revolution Begins

    A war of American Colonies against British Empire for freedoms from the British Government. The colonies ended up winning the war with George Washington as president.

    Second Continental Congress
    Convention of Delegates from 13 colonies in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They met soon after the Revolutionary war began. They managed the colonial war effort and moved towards independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Stated that the 13 colonies would be independent and would no longer be apart of the British Empire. A committee was assembled to draft the formal declaration.

    Agreement of 13 founding states that established the United States of America. It served as America's first Constitution

    Shay's Rebellion
    An armed uprising that took place in central and western Massachusetts. It was caused because of harsh government and a credit squeeze of caused by lack of hard currency.
  • Connecticut Compromise

    Connecticut Compromise
    Agreement that large and small states would be under the United States Constitution. It retained the bicameral legislature as proposed by James Madison, along with proportional representation in the lower house, but required the upper house to be weighted equally between the states.
