    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    The Magna Carta was a document written by the barons of King George that proclaimed certain liberties. For example, no man may be punished for something besides the law of the land.
  • Jamestown Settled

    Jamestown Settled
    It was the first successful settlement in North America. It was named after King James.
  • Mayflower Compact written

    An agreement to establish a government. Written by the pilgrims on the Mayflower.
  • Petition of Right

    Petition of Right
    Limited the power of the king by writing out several rights of the people he could not infringe upon. Ratified on June 7th, 1628.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    It lays down the rights of the king over his people in England. It reestablished the rights of the protestants.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    A plan to unify the colonies during the French and Indian War. It was rejected.
  • American Revolution (begins)

    American Revolution (begins)
    Americans fought for their independance from the tyranny of Great Britain. Armed colonists battled using guerrila style tactics to defeat them.
  • Stamp Act

    A tax that must be payed on certain documents. Such documents as: birth certificates, death certificates, and adoption papers.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British Army soldiers killed 5 people and injured six others in a mob. The mob had been verbally abusing the british officers and they fired without orders.
  • First Continental Congress

    They met to discuss ways to get out of Britain rule. Such as, boycotting, rights and grievances, and petitioning King George.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    A series of laws passed by Britain aimed at the colonies. They were in direct response to the Boston Tea Party.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    Managed the war effort and pushed towards the independance from Britain. Follow up from the First Congressional Congress in 1774.
  • Declaration of Independance

    Declaration of Independance
    A document declaring America's Independance from Britain. It also explained why they were seperating from England.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Three shiploads of taxed tea were refused to be returned to Britain. So colonists threw it into the Boston Harbor to destroy it.
  • Articles of Confederation

    Articles of Confederation
    The first constitution of the United States. Later replaced by the current Constitution.
  • Philadelphia Convention

    Philadelphia Convention
    A meeting to figure out how to govern America after the Revolutionary war. George Washington was elected President over America.
  • Constitution Convection

    A meeting held in order to discuss problems in governing America. This took place after independance was secured from Great Britain.
  • Connecticut Compromise

    Provided equal representation in the Senate. It also provided proportional representation in the House of Representatives.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion
    An armed uprising in central and western Massachusettes against the British. Four were killed with twenty injured.
