    Battle of France/ Miracle of Dunkirk
    Battle of France was mainly to drive France out of where they were strongest.
    1. The defeat of the french army took only 6 weeks.
    2. Separated into two operations: The Fall Gelb Operation (Case Yellow) and The Fall Rot (Case Red).
    3. Case Yellow was meant to push the French army out of their stronghold territory.
    4. Case Red was to strengthen the German superiority in the region.
    5. Initially the estimation for the evacuation was that only 45,000 people could be activated within 48 hours.

    The main idea and purpose of the Battle of Britain was to establish superiority and dominance over RAF (Royal Air Force) through air raids and air combat.
    1. Nazi Germany launched a surprise airborne raid against a British shipping convoy in the English Channel.
    2. Fought in Britain and Germany was on the offensive.
    3. Hitler wanted to negotiate a peace treaty with Britain.
    4. Main objective was to establish dominance over RAF.
    5. RAF won the battle.

    The importance of this siege was because if Hitler had won, he would've gotten manufactures, shipyards, and steelworks.
    1. Known as the 900 day siege, but was actually 872 days.
    2. Killed 650,000 people through starvation, disease, and shelling from artillery in 1942.
    3. Resulted in over 1 million deaths.
    4. Hitler lost.

    The importance of the battle of Stalingrad was that it was one of the first major losses on Germany's part.
    1. After the Battle of Stalingrad, Germany was not able to advance further into Europe.
    2. Was a result of Hitler's decision to invade without the declaration of war.
    3. On Nov. 19 1942, the Soviet Union launched a counter defense called Operation Uranus.
    4, About 40,000 Soviet civilians lost their lives.
    5. Germans named this battle Rat war due to destroying everything including sewers.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch
    The importance of Operation Torch was that it was the first time the US and the British had planned with each other.
    1. The first time the British and Americans had jointly worked on an invasion plan together.
    2. The plan was to invade Sicily and then on to mainland Italy and move up the so-called “soft underbelly” of Europe.
    3. The Allies planned to invade Morocco and Algeria
    4. Three landing sites were chosen – Casablanca, Oran and Algiers
    5. Allies won.

    The importance of D-Day was that when the allied forces won, it gave the forces headway into advancing against Germany.
    1. Also known as Operation Overlord.
    2. D-day gave way to the long awaited second front against Germany.
    3. D-Day required very detailed planning deception and building up resources.
    4. D-Day was the largest naval, air, and land operation in history.
    5. Was originally set for June 5th, but was postponed 24 hours due to bad weather.

    The significance of the Battle of the Bulge was that Germany's defeat and the end of the war in Europe came sooner, and with less casualties than it would have without.
    1. Resulted in 90,000 casualties on the Allied side and 100,000 casualties on the German side.
    2. Allied forces won.
    3. Fought in southern Belgium and Luxembourg.
    4. German troops used stolen U.S. Army uniforms to wreak havoc behind Allied lines
    5. Fuel shortages helped to defeat the Germans in the battle.

    The Battle of Berlin was important because it was the last battle fought, and resulting in Germany's surrender.
    1. The Soviet Union had 2,500,000 soldiers, 7,500 aircraft, and 6,250 tanks.
    2. The Germans had about 1,000,000 soldiers, 2,200 aircraft, and 1,500 tanks
    3. April 20th the Soviets began bombing Berlin and defeated them, then began surrounding the city before moving in.
    4. 150,000 Polish people fought on Soviet Union's side.
    5. Left a million Germans without homes, clean water, or food
