    German marched into France with hopes of taking control of Paris. Germany conquered France with little resistance due to Allied retreat. This conquest was sucessful as Paris and the rest of France fell to Germany.

    It was HItler's belief that Germans required more land due to population. Thus, the Germans attempted an invasion of the USSR. However, the attempt failed and only served to prove that the German forces weren't not invincable as previously thought.

    Seeking to destroy the US Pacific fleet before it was large enough to outmatch their own, the Japanese attacked the island of Midway. However, their attack failed and brought Japanese and US naval powers to approximate parity and marked the turning point of the war in the Pacific theater.

    Invading Germans saw the conquest of Stalingrad essential to their compign in Southern Russia. Additionally, taking a city named after the leader of the USSR held symbolic importance to Germany. However, this invasion of the city failed as the USSR defense of Stalingrad proved sucessful turning the WWII in the favor of the Allies.

    Planning to liberate France, American, British and Candian forces landed on the coast of France's Normandy region. This effort proved sucessful and resulted in the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany.
