Jan Babtist van Helmont
Helmont accepted the ideas of Spontaneous Generation. He only accepted two elements of the universe; air and water. One of his experiments was the growth of a tree and how after five years it had gotten bigger when all he did was watter it. -
Hooke discovers cells
He examined very thin slices of cork and noticed thny poors that he said looked like tiny compartments that a monk would live in. He called these tiny compartments cells.Hooke did not know the structure or function of cells and his descriptions he never indicated the nucleus and other organelles found in most living cells. -
Andton Van Leeuwenhoek
Leeuwenhoek states in his book that motility is a quality of life, therefore the cells he observed were living organisims. He was also able to identify the first accurate description on red blood cells and discover bacteria. Finally, after observing the sperm cells of both animals and humans he concluded that reproduction is done with both sperm and egg cells. -

Robert Brown
Brown became the first to recognize the cell nucleus. -
Theodor Schwann
Schwann discovered that plant tissues were made up of cells.Once he discovered this, he wrote a book and in it he said "All living things are composed of cells and cell products." This later became part of The Cell Theory. -
Schleiden states that different parts of the plant organism are composed of cells
Schieden later recognized the importance of the cell nucleus, and sensed its connection with cell division. He declared that the cell was the basic building block of all plant matter. -
Albrecht von Roelliker
Albrecht discover that sperm cells and egg cells are also cells -
Virchow suggests that cells come from previous cells
He was cited for being the first person recognize leukemia cells and that all cells came from pre-existing cells, At first, he did not believe this theory, that this only occured with certain types of cells. -
Louis Pasteur
Pasteur proved Spontaneous Generation wrong by coming up with a process to prevent milk and wine from making people sick. He replaced Stponateous Generation with Biogenesis. Biogenesis is the Germ Theory, which led Pasteur to discover vaccines for Rabbies and Anthrax.
