The thing that inspired the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is the huge Macy's store. That store took up a whole entire block. It was the largest store and Macy's wanted to do something to celebrate.     The 1924 Parade was so successful that they decided to do it again. In 1927 movies started to get more popular, and instead of live animals in the parade they replaced that with balloons of famous movie characters. The first balloons ever in the Macy's Thanksgivings day parade included Felix the Cat, The Dragon, The Elephant, and Toy Soldier. In 1924 they also changed the name. Instead of being Macy's Christmas Day Parade to then Macy's Thanksgivings Day Parade.
