    a pavilion for the expo ’98, in lisbon, located by the river tagus. converted to a museum of science after the expo, including very flexible exhibition areas and associated support spaces and administrative offices.
    in 2010, a second phase of the operation completed the conversion of the interior space.

    this intervention addressed the themes of protection, revelation and readability. first, the clear delimitation of the site with a membrane of corten steel to contain the higher perimetrical surface, allowing both access and a panoramic view of the site. stepping down to the site, a hovering structure protects the existing mosaics, its underside covered in a black mirror that allows the visitor to see reflected the vertical perspective of the pavements. for the protection of the eleventh century

    two new bodies - the primary school and the gymnasium - discretely complete the existing set. on the southern side, the volume of the primary school, over two levels and partially buried, defines the limit of the school and operates as an acoustic barrier that protects it from the noise generated by a neighbouring highway. on the northern side, the pure volume of the gymnasium blends with the existing auditorium building, redrawing the school's entrance square.
